Modelling Information Flows in Financial Markets

چکیده
This paper presents an overview of information-based asset pricing. In the information-based approach, an asset is defined by its cash-flow structure. The market is assumed to have access to “partial” information about future cash flows. Each cash flow is determined by a collection of independent market factors called X-factors. The market filtration is generated by a set of information processes, each of which carries information about one of the X-factors, and eventually reveals the X-factor in a way that ensures that the associated cash flows have the correct measureability properties. In the models considered each information process has two terms, one of which contains a “signal” about the associated X-factor, and the other of which represents “market noise”. The existence of an established pricing kernel, adapted to the market filtration, is assumed. The price of an asset is given by the expectation of the discounted cash flows in the associated risk-neutral measure, conditional on the information provided by the market. When the market noise is modelled by a Brownian bridge one is able to construct explicit formulae for asset prices, as well as semi-analytic expressions for the prices and greeks of options and derivatives. In particular, option price data can be used to determine the information flow-rate parameters implicit in the definitions of the information processes. One consequence of the modelling framework is a specific scheme of stochastic volatility and correlation processes. Instead of imposing a volatility and correlation model upon the dynamics of a set of assets, one is able to deduce the dynamics of the

The impact of the Internet on financial markets By Nicholas Economides
Technology always had an impact on financial markets. Often, as in the case of the telegraph, it was the use of new technology in the financial realm that necessitated the installation of the new network. Moreover, frequently, the introduction of new technology had tremendous and sometimes unexpected effects on the structure of financial markets. For example, many historians explain the eventua...
متن کاملFinancial literacy learning in emerging markets: Agent-based modelling
Financial literacy is a critical determinant of household well-being. We use an agent-based modelling approach to analyse the impacts of financial literacy programs delivered from sources of varying degrees of credibility through a social network in emerging economies. The simulation results indicate that the social networks of emerging markets rely heavily on source credibility to grow and sus...
متن کاملFinancial market depth: friend or foe when it comes to effective management of monetary policy and capital flows?
In advice given to emerging market economies (EMEs), it is often emphasised that having developed financial markets would both enable them to manage capital flows more efficiently, thereby reducing the need to intervene in the foreign exchange markets, and allow for more effective monetary policy. But despite their evident benefits, it is also the case that developed financial markets can compl...
متن کاملUsing transfer entropy to measure information flows between financial markets
We use transfer entropy to quantify information flows between financial markets and propose a suitable bootstrap procedure for statistical inference. Transfer entropy is a model-free measure designed as the Kullback-Leibler distance of transition probabilities. Our approach allows to determine, measure and test for information transfer without being restricted to linear dynamics. In our empiric...
متن کاملSecuritization, Leverage, Tranching, and International Capital Flows
We show that (i) different collateral requirements across countries in securitized markets lead to net international capital flows, and (ii) the ability to tranche asset-backed securities in one country leads to offsetting portfolio flows, creating gross financial flows. We use a general equilibrium model with two countries, collateralized borrowing, and securitized markets. Financial systems d...
